For textile industries, there are
many important attributes of textile products that are very helpful in
determining the quality of textile products. These attributes include colors,
weight, quantity and yarn count. Another major attribute important for textile
products is the GSM of the products. GSM stands for Grammage per Square Meter.
GSM is very helpful in determining the quality and strength of a fabric. It is
also helpful in exact prediction of the processing methods that are needed for
the fabric such as dying, priding, scuffing etc. For textile industries, it is
very important to measure the exact GSM of a fabric so that exact costing of
the products could be calculated.
Accurate measurement of GSM of a
product is done with the help of a grammage checking kit. The grammage checking
kit is a set of two different instruments that are used in textile industries
for calculation of GSM of a particular fabric. The two instruments that are
incorporated in the GSM checking kits are GSM cutter and Digital GSM balance.
The GSM cutter is a highly
precise instrument that is used for cutting a circular disc from the fabric.
The GSM cutter comprises of four very sharp blades that can cut even the hardest
fabric in very les time and with very much ease. For preparation of the test
sample, the GSM cutter is placed in the fabric and the knob of the cutter is
rotated clockwise to 90 degrees. After that the cutter is lifted and the
circular disc is separated from the fabric. This circular disc is now weighed
to calculate the GSM of the fabric using a highly sensitive and accurate
digital GSM balance.
A digital GSM balance is a highly
sensitive digital balance which is used for weighing very light objects such as
small piece of a fabric. The balance is provided with advance software to
operate the instrument. This software also helps extending its usage by
connecting it to the computer. With the computer connectivity, it becomes easy
to view and store the measurement data for future references. The digital
balance has a self calibration capacity which helps in automatic calibration of
the instrument with every usage. There is a digital display provided with the
balance that helps in clear and accurate viewing of the results.
A Grammage Checking Kits is a
must have in any industry involved in manufacturing or processing of textile
products such as garment export houses, textile processing house and so forth.
